Specific Gravity = Density of urine / Density of water
SG close to 1.001:
 • Excessive hydration
 • Diabetes insipidus (deficiency or resistance to ADH)
 • ATN
SG fixed at ~1.010:
 • Advanced kidney failure
SG close to 1.035:
 • Dehydration
 • SIADH (syndrome of inappropriate ADH)
 • CHF
 • Cirrhosis
 • Glycosuria
 • Proteinuria
 • Recent IV contrast
