Innate Immune Cells - Pathophysiology
The innate immune system consists of granulocytes, mast cells, natural killer cells, and monocytes, all of which do not require previous pathogen exposure to carry out defence functions. Monocytes and neutrophils are phagocytes, capable of internalizing pathogens for destruction. Monocytes and B-cells are professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs), allowing them to internalize antigens and present the antigens on MHC class II proteins to T-cells.
