Sporotrichosis - Sporothrix schenckii - Diagnosis and Management Summary
Sources: 
 • Landscaping, Christmas tree farming, Rose gardening, Topiary production
 • Zoonotic transmission from cats (rare)
Diagnosis:
 • Culture is the gold standard
 • Histopathologic mixed granulomatous / pyogenic process
 • PCR not available commercially
 • Serology is not used
Sporotrichosis Syndromes:
 • Lymphocutaneous Sporotrichosis - Most common form. Days-weeks. Similar lesions along lymphatic channels.
 • Pulmonary Sporotrichosis - Symptoms, CXR mimic TB +/- dissemination to skin. If untreated progresses to death
 • Osteoarticular Sporotrichosis - Uncommon manifestation. More frequently in alcoholics. Hematogenous spread.
 • Meningeal Sporotrichosis - Rare manifestation. Weeks-months. Lymphoma or AIDS. CSF similar to TB or cryptococcus 
 • Disseminated Sporotrichosis - Very uncommon - AIDS patients.
