Prothrombin Time (PT) and Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT)

Prothrombin Time (PT) - Often Elevated in:
 • Vitamin K deficiency or antagonism (warfarin)
 • Factor VII deficiency or inhibitor
 • Liver disease

Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT) - Often elevated in:
 • Heparin use
 • Heparinized line
 • Factor XI, IX, VIII deficiency or inhibitor

Both elevated in:
 • DIC
 • Underfilled test tubes 
 • Factor X, V, II, fibrinogen deficiency or inhibitor
