Nerve agents are similar to organophosphate pesticides in their mechanism of action and symptomology. They phosphorylate and inactivate the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. As a result, with no enzyme to break it down, acetylcholine accumulates in the synapse and continues to exert its downstream effects. #Pathophys #Toxicology #Mechanisms #NerveAgents #AcetylcholinesteraseInhibitor
