Initial treatment of renal bone disease and cinacalcet for secondary hyperparathyroidism
Phosphate binders reduce hyperphosphataemia and hyperparathyroidism. Calcium-containing phosphate binders also improve hypocalcaemia.

Calcitriol improves hypocalcaemia and hyperparathyroidism.

Addition of cinacalcet to the first-line treatments inhibits PTH release. This decreases secondary hyperparathyroidism which reduces bone turnover and associated electrolyte disturbances.
