BISAP Score for Pancreatitis Mortality

A simple mnemonic of risk factors for mortality in acute pancreatitis.  A BISAP score ≥3 identifies patients at high risk for mortality.  Compared to Ranson’s and APACHE II, the BISAP score is simpler and equally effective for early mortality prediction.

B - BUN >25 mg/dL (8.92 mmol/L)
I - Impaired mental status
S - SIRS (≥2 criteria)
A - Age >60 years
P - Pleural effusion present
