Systolic Anterior Motion (SAM) of the Mitral Valve (MV)

Systolic anterior motion (SAM) describes the dynamic movement of the mitral valve (MV) during systole anteriorly towards the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) causing obstruction.

Differential diagnosis: 
* Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy 
Hypertension 
Diabetes mellitus 
Acute myocardial infarction 
Mitral valve repair or dysfunction 
D-transposition
