Chondrocalcinosis: Calcium Pyrophosphate Dihydrate (CPPD) Deposition Disease

 - Acute CPPD precipitation into the joint space -> Inflammatory response to crystals -> Acute pseudogout: (especially in knees)
 - Repeated subacute crystal precipitation into joint space -> Subacute polyarticular arthritis (Pseudo-rheumatoid) (tends to be out of phase, selected MCP/PIP joints, migratory)
 - Chondrocyte death with loss of cartilage -> Osteoarthritis (exuberant, often in joints not normally affected — e.g., wrist)
