Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome: Pathogenesis and Clinical Findings
• Primary Sjögren's is a solitary process whereas secondary Sjögren's accompanies other autoimmune diseases
• In secondary Sjögren's, the syndrome may be seen in association with single processes like primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), or with systemic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
Signs / Symptoms:
 - Lymphocyte infiltration -> Increased gland size
 - Decreased tear production -> Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (Dry eyes)
 - Decreased saliva production -> Xerostomia (Dry Mouth)
 - Decreased mucous production -> Nocturnal cough
 - Decreased sebum production -> Xeroderma (Dry skin)
