Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Pathogenesis and Clinical Findings

Symptoms (included in DSM 5 criteria) - Present during same two week period and represent change from previous functioning:
 - Anhedonia (loss of interest/pleasure)
 - Anergia (fatigue)
 - Insomnia or hypersomnia
 - Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
 - Poor cognition/concentration
 - Depressed Mood
 - Appetite or weight change (Incr or Decr)
 - Psychomotor agitation or retardation
 - Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide
Other Symptoms:
 - Loss of libido
 - Mood varies by time of day (diurnal variation)
 - Worse in winter (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
 - Onset in month after delivery (MDD with post partum onset)
 - Anxiety
 - Hallucinations (MDD with psychotic features)
 - Delusions (MDD with psychotic features)
