Fahr syndrome, also known as bilateral striatopallidodentate calcinosis, is characterised by abnormal vascular calcium deposition, particularly in the basal ganglia, cerebellar dentate nuclei, and white matter, with subsequent atrophy. It can be either primary (usually autosomal dominant) or secondary to a large number of underlying illnesses or metabolic disturbances. #fahr #syndrome #striatopallidodentate #calcinosis #calcium #brain #ct #radiology
The scalpel sign has been recently described in dorsal thoracic arachnoid web on sagittal MRI spine
The scalpel sign has been recently described in dorsal thoracic arachnoid web on sagittal MRI spine studies. It relates to focal distortion of the thoracic cord, appearing anteriorly displaced. The enlarged dorsal CSF space mimics the profile of a surgical scalpel. It is helpful in distinguishing cases where the thoracic cord is focally anteriorly displaced, a finding seen in a couple of other conditions in addition to dorsal thoracic arachnoid web, namely ventral cord herniation and the presence of a dorsal arachnoid cyst. #scalpel #sign #spinal #spine #thoracic #sagittal #mri #radiology

Spiral fracture of the distal tibial shaft with 90 degrees of lateral angulation (so the lateral projection of the leg has the ankle appearing as a frontal projection). Spiral proximal fibular shaft fracture with mild lateral displacement, in keeping with a Maisonneuve fracture. Ankle syndesmosis is not widened. #spiral #fracture #tibial #maisonneuve #ortho #xray #radiology

Osteoid osteomas are benign bone-forming tumours that typically occur in children (particularly adolescents). They have characteristic lucent nidus <2 cm and surrounding solid periosteal reaction and classically cause night pain that is relieved by the use of salicylate analgesia, e.g. aspirin. #osteoid #osteoma #tumor #children #peds #pediatrics #nidus #radiology #ortho
